A View at Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a major international tourist destination, famous for it’s seaside (and even offshore) luxury resorts. it’s major settlement, vaitape is on the western side of the main island, opposite the main channel leading into the lagoon.


Produce of the island is mostly limited to what can be obtained from the sea and from the plentiful coconut trees, which were historically of economic importance for the production of copra.

Tourism is the main economic driver of bora bora and the island is home of luxury resorts and other tourist facilities. many visitors come to the island to experience the overwater bungalows and other amenities offered by the island resorts, and tourism is a major contributor to the island’s economy.

The main attraction of bora bora is the lagoon with it’s still intact underwater world. using glass bottom boats, diving and snorkeling, tourist can explore the reef with thousands of colorful coral fish. in the deep lagoon, tourist can feed barracudas and sharks during guided diving excursions. an attraction for divers is the “stingray strait”, an area of the lagoon where several species of stingrays are found in large schools, including numerous manta rays and leopard rays.

The island’s economy is driven almost entirely by tourism. several resorts have been built on the motu surrounding the lagoon. most of the tourist destination are sea- oriented, however, there are also tourist attractions on land, such as world war 11 cannons.

There’s no public transport on the island, so rental cars and bicycle are the recommended means of transport. in addition, there are small two-seater buggies for hire in vaitape and motorboats can be rented to explore the lagoon.
